Raks Almeh

Women Of Dance

Welcome

Who are Raks Almeh

Raks Almeh Dance Troupe is a company of women who celebrate the experiences of life and sisterhood through music and dance, and in that, form an appreciation and celebration of our differences. We strive to provide troupe members with the experience of movement, dance and performance through social and fun events and to continuously expand each member's wealth of dance creativity through sharing what we have learned. Through performance we introduce, educate, entertain and promote the ethnic art of Middle Eastern Belly Dancing to the public and nurture a community of enthusiasts for middle eastern costume, culture and dance.

Raks Almeh Dance Troupe is a professional, performance belly dance troupe that was established in Chilliwack, B.C. on October 16, 2002, and has grown to include members from Mission and Abbotsford. Performing throughout the province of B.C., Raks Almeh presents an inspirational tribal fusion of belly dance styles and the members enthusiastically share their joy and passion for dance with each other and with their audiences.

Our fusion of dance styles includes Gypsy, Egyptian, Spanish, Arabic, Banjari and Tribal, which we may choreograph to traditional Middle Eastern music or to Alternative Pop. As a group we enjoy coordinating costumes. While each member expresses her own style through jewellery and hair design we tie a common theme together with pantaloons, skirts, hipscarves, veils and tops. As a troupe we continuously strive to raise our level of skill and variation in performance, through participating in workshops and classes, exploring many forms of dance.

Earlier this year, through discussion and input from all members, we created our first draft of Troupe Guidelines (a work in progress) to help our focus in increasing our level of professionalism and developing common goals. The guidelines have ensured that each troupe member is an active and involved participant in how the troupe functions.
