Women Of Dance

Voices from the Valley

April 2008

We’ve just wrapped up Sharon Moore’s two-day workshop and Spirit of the Tribz Belly Dance Show! Sharon and her troupe sister Genevieve Du Puy instructed a rockin’ two-day workshop. Both mornings we practised tribal technique and combinations. Saturday afternoon we worked on “tweakin’”: blending elements of different combinations to create a unique combination of moves. The weekend of workshops wrapped up on Sunday afternoon after a two-hour Bhangra Fusion workshop. Sharon explained the history of Bhangra dance, and taught a variety of energetic dance moves and combinations, which we put into practice at the end when we danced with our friends! The workshops were well attended and there was time to meet new friends and catch up with friends we haven’t seen in a while during the breaks! We had dancers from as far away as Campbell River and the Yukon join us, and it was interesting to hear about belly dance in their communities! There were wonderful things for sale at Arianna’s Bazaar, and everyone had a fine time browsing through the many beautiful costumes, belts and accessories created by Ahmileena and Merebah!

Belly dancers from all over came out to perform at the Spirit of the Tribz Belly Dance Show and received rave reviews from our audience! The stage was ablaze with every style of belly dance from traditional Turkish to Goth being performed by so many wonderful dancers! We thank Caroline and Richelle, Egyptian Breeze, The Cactus Flowers, EtherealVibe, The Valley Gypsies, Zelia, and Sharon Moore and Genevieve Du Puy for joining us and dancing with us at the Belly Dance Show!

We also thank our many friends who volunteered their time and effort to make this show such a great event! Their wealth of energy, talent, and know-how helped make this years Spirit of the Tribz Belly Dance Show a great success and a memorable event!

Salam Aleikum.
